It all started as dream whilst Pauline and I sat on the veranda of our rented apartment in Kefalonia in July 2007. We had a wonderful holiday and as this was our second visit we were really getting to know how friendly and welcoming the islanders were to visitors.

A quick look in Real Estate windows gave us a clue to the availability of property but nothing hit us as ideal. But we picked up a brochure on a new development and flew home still dreaming!

When we returned we booked immediately for another short break in October 2007 and started to search web sites for information. We contacted AEC and expressed an interest and in late October met Per and Panagis for the first time. Without any pressure on us they explained all the issues and requirement to buy a property on Kefalonia. We visited a barren patch of earth on a site they were developing at Kountourata and tried to vision how this might look. In the evening we went for a meal in the local Taverna and agreed that we should seriously consider buying a plot and building from scratch, our dream home.

Panagis and Per advised us on what we needed to do next, Tax numbers, Bank account, Solicitor, and Building plans. Once we had appointed our solicitor (Yiannis – a local Kefalonian also) searches of the Land registry were completed promptly and we then proceeded with the serious business.

In less than a week Panagis and Per had helped us to choose everything from final colour schemes to the bathroom fittings and Kitchen appliances! Nothing was too much trouble and Panagis reproduced several versions of the plans to give us a feel for the effect of the changes we wanted to make. To this point we had signed nothing! Yiannis acted to ensure we were satisfied with the legal aspects and agreed to act as our representative and Power of Attorney. Only after ensuring we were completely happy did we sign the forms to purchase.

The next few months saw a stream of photos and the occasional call to verify we were satisfied with progress. Building work started on 5/11/2007 with a completion of 15/5/2008 anticipated.

Further calls were made to make small adjustments where required and to give advice. Again photos of the development as it progressed were sent regularly. Slowly our dream emerged from the ground and on 25/5/2008 we returned to Kefalonia to inspect the house and agree any snags, which needed attended to. Again with everyone’s help including Fotis who managed the site, everything was attended to and nothing was too much trouble. Further help was given in sourcing garden landscaping and pool maintenance, using trusted and reliable contacts locally.

We are now looking forward to our first visit to our “Dream” made reality”. I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone the service provided by AEC and to Per and Panagis and all the team involved, who I feel have now become friends as well as business associates.

The last thing we need to do is become more fluent in Greek! But to anyone considering a home purchased through AEC I would not let this concern you, as everything was explained and translated for us so that we fully understood what was being agreed to.

Many thanks again to Panagis and Per for your help and professional manner in dealing with all the arrangements and to Yiannis our solicitor for his patience in explaining any intricacies and dealing quickly with any matters which needed attention.

Charles and Pauline Sneider 2/6/2008.
